Diabetes keeps rising among most of the people and preventable with a healthy lifestyle, which is important for people suffering from it. Diabetes patient should take special care of their food habits because for them excess diet is as harmful as taking less diet. In addition to three meals a day, taking snacks twice with it makes diet routine complete for them. These people should intake protein and carbohydrate in a balanced proportion in their meals. There are plenty of things that Diabetic patient should take care but here we will look into a few quick diabetes diets for them.

WHAT TO EAT  –

  • In breakfast  milk with Oatmeal and Wheat Bread
  • In lunch and dinner green vegetables, Daal (pulses) with two Chappatis (Bannock). This keeps the balance of sugar in diet proper. Carbohydrate in food releases sugar fast in blood while protein-sugar is released slowly. This keeps a balance of sugar in blood and person do not feel hungry quickly.
  • Should take small meals at regular intervals. In fruits and vegetables Cherry, Strawberry, Apple, Orange, Pomegranate, Jambolan, Papaya, Custard Apple, Lime,  Bittergourd, Cucumber, Tomatoes should be consumed regularly.
  • Should take food with the low glycemic index in their diet, as they are converted to sugar slowly in the body. Food like Soya, Moong Daal, Black Gram, Red Gram, Brown Rice, green vegetables and white portion of an egg are food with low Glycemic index.
  • Should take high dietary food like oats, oatmeal, red gram. Sprouts should be taken regularly as they have high antioxidant properties.
  • Juices are not much beneficial for diabetic people but if want to take juice than a bitter gourd, cucumber, tomato, Indian gooseberry and Aloe Vera juice can be taken.
  • Dry fruits consumption increases the immunity of the body and also they are high in dietary fibres. 5 to 7 almonds and 3 to 4 walnuts can be taken in dry fruits.
  • Diabetic people should take high fibre biscuits with tea. Green tea is good for their health. Milk taken should be double toned. Curd of double toned milk should be taken regularly.
  • Chappatis made from wheat flour plus Jow flour are better for diabetic people as Jow is also low Glycemic index food.
  • Coconut water, green vegetables soup, buttermilk, lactose-free milk and yogurt can be taken.
  • Diabetic people can eat rice but only brown rice. Sweet potatoes can be added in their diet plan.
  • Green veggies like bell peppers, spinach, broccoli, zucchini, lettuces and more can be eaten.
  • Fenugreek seeds are beneficial for diabetic people. Wash and soak Fenugreek seed in the water at night and drink the soaked water in the morning. Fenugreek seeds soaked can be used to prepare the vegetable.
  • Patient with diabetes can eat chicken or turkey without the skin, as chicken or turkey contains high protein. Seafood can be eaten also.
  • Roasted grams can be-be eaten by diabetic people as snacks. Dried peas and beans like Chickpeas can also be eaten as evening snacks.

WHAT TO NOT – 

    • Butter, Paneer, Red Meat, Cheese should be restricted.
    • White rice should not be consumed. If it needs to be taken, it should not be boiled as boiling washes away all its minerals and vitamins.
    • Sugar, honey, sugarcane, chocolates, cakes, pastries, Kulfi, ice creams, Jaggery should not be consumed.
    • Potato, Arabi, pumpkin should not be taken. Boiled potatoes can be taken if needed rather than fried.
    • Packed juices and soft drinks contain a high amount of sugar.
    • Hard drinks should not be consumed. If required, they should never be taken in empty stomach as it reduces the sugar level in blood drastically.
    • Maida flour or Makai flour should not be used in food as they have a high Glycemic index.
    • In fruits mango, banana, pineapple, grapes, Chicku contains a high amount of sugar, so should be restricted.
    • White bread, noodles, pizza, pasta, biscuit, Sooji should not be taken as they increase the level of blood sugar.
    • Do not take fried food in diet as they increase weight and also cholesterol.
    • Draw a line between excessive and limited alcohol consuming. It is suggested to restrict alcohol consumption daily.

Note:  Fried food is harmful to their health and they should also exercise regularly.
